Printed Mailer Boxes and Finishes: Board, Ink and Varnish
This range is about how a mailer box looks rather than how it closes: the colour of the board, the ink that goes on it and the varnish over the top. Pick the finish first, then any closure from tuck top to ear lock can carry it.

Pick any of the 4 printed and finished mailers, upload your logo and place it on the box. A free proof follows before anything is printed.

Your logo is placed on a real photo of our box. A designer redraws it to scale on the dieline and sends a free proof before anything is printed.
Four finishes, one folding box
Every box in this range is the same folding corrugated mailer underneath. What changes is the surface: a fully printed face, black board with white ink, a clean white liner or honest brown kraft.
The finish sets the first impression on the doormat and on camera, so it is worth choosing before you settle the artwork. Try your logo on each board colour on the Design Your Mailer Box page and compare them side by side.
All four are cut to your inside size on E-flute 1.5 mm or B-flute 3 mm, and every job gets a free proof before printing starts.
How do the four printed and plain finishes compare?
Sizes shown are typical starting inside sizes; each box is made to the size you send.
| Finish | Board face | Print it takes best | Typical inside size | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Custom printed | White-lined or kraft | Full colour on every panel | 250 x 180 x 80 mm | Brands with photos or patterns |
| Matt black | Black | White ink or one colour | 250 x 180 x 80 mm | Beauty, grooming, gift kits |
| White | White-lined | Bright colour, or left plain | 250 x 180 x 80 mm | Clean, bright brand colours |
| Brown kraft | Natural brown | One or two colours, or plain | 250 x 180 x 80 mm | Handmade, craft, everyday orders |
Any of the four can be printed inside as well. Inside print turns a plain-looking kraft box into a surprise when the lid lifts.
Should you print on kraft or white board?
Kraft shows through the ink. A red logo on brown board reads darker and warmer than the same red on white, and pale colours almost vanish. That is fine for a one colour logo in black or a deep shade.
For bright brand colours, skin tones or photographs, use white mailer boxes or ask for a white underprint on kraft. The underprint lays a white base under the artwork so colour sits true, while the brown board still frames it.
Plain kraft with a single stamp-style logo is still one of the most popular finishes. It is quick to proof, simple to reorder and looks tidy beside a printed sticker or a branded tape.
What does white ink look like on black board?
Crisp and bright against the dark face. White ink on black board gives a strong contrast for a logo, a short line of text or a simple pattern, and the matt surface keeps it from looking glossy or cheap.
Fine detail needs care. Very thin lines can fill in, so thicken thin strokes before you send the file. The matt black mailer boxes page shows how a one colour print sits on the board.
How do you get the print right first time?
Most delays come from artwork, not from printing. Run through this list before sending files.
- Ask for the dieline at your inside size and place the artwork on it, not on a flat rectangle.
- Keep text and logos at least 5 mm clear of every fold and cut line.
- Send vector logos where you can, and photos at full size and good resolution.
- Say which panels are printed outside, which are printed inside and which stay plain.
- Name the board colour, so we can warn you if a colour will shift on kraft or black.
- Check the proof at full size, including the flaps that tuck out of sight.
Inside print follows its own rules, because the artwork reads upside down on the flat sheet. The guide to printing inside the lid covers the setup.
Matt or gloss varnish: which one?
Varnish is a clear coat over the print. It guards the ink from scuffs in transit and changes how the box feels in the hand.
- Matt varnish: soft, low sheen, hides fingerprints, suits muted colours and black board
- Gloss varnish: shiny, makes full colour photos look deeper, shows scuffs a little more
- No varnish: the natural feel of kraft, best for plain or one colour boxes
Varnish is quoted with the box. If you are unsure, ask for both on the quote and compare the proof notes.

Printed Mailer Boxes and Finishes questions
Can custom printed mailer boxes carry a photo across the lid?
Yes. Full colour print on white-lined board reproduces photographs well, and the image can wrap from the lid onto the front panel if the dieline is set up for it.
Can matt black mailer boxes be printed in colour?
One colour works best, usually white or a light brand colour. Dark inks barely show on black board, so we will flag that at the proof stage.
Are white mailer boxes white inside too?
White-lined board is white on the outer face and brown inside as standard. Ask for print inside if you want the inside to look bright as well.
Do brown kraft mailer boxes need any print at all?
No. Plain kraft is a common choice for sellers who brand with a sticker, a stamp or printed tape instead.
What is a white underprint on kraft?
It is a layer of white ink printed under your artwork on brown board. It stops colours dulling against the kraft and lets you keep the brown look around the design.
Does gloss varnish work on matt black mailer boxes?
It can be added, but most buyers keep the matt look and use varnish only over the white print to protect it from scuffs.
Which finish costs the least?
Plain brown kraft, followed by kraft with a one colour print. Full colour on both faces costs the most, and every option is priced on your written quote.
Will my printed colours match my brand exactly?
We match as closely as the board allows and show any expected shift on the proof. Colours on kraft and black board always differ from the same colour on white.
Can I print inside a matt black mailer box?
Yes. Inside print on black works the same way as outside, so white ink gives the strongest result. See the custom printed mailer boxes page for full colour options inside.
Can one order mix white and brown kraft mailer boxes?
Yes. Each finish is its own line on the quote, and both can share the same artwork, adjusted on the proof for each board.
